Elizabeth Gill Lui (b. 1951) is a fine art photographer, author, and educator whose work has been widely exhibited and published. In 1995 and 2006, Lui focused on historical architecture in the region surrounding Hong Kong. She accompanied students from the School of Architecture at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) as they traveled to record traditional environments in a fast-changing cultural landscape. Lui exhibited and published the photographs to call attention to issues of cultural preservation and the collision of traditional environments with rapid development. These photos are intended to be both an archive and a catalyst for initiatives that push for protection of China’s irreplaceable heritage.
