PASADENA, Calif. – The California Art Club celebrates the Golden State’s defining natural beauty with the exhibition Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns, on view from June 28 to July 29 at the USC Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena.

The exhibition features classic beach imagery along the state’s famed coastline and iconic Pacific Coast Highway. The nearly 45 paintings include not only pristine vistas of unspoiled beaches and dramatic seaside cliffs, such as Crystal Cove and Diver’s Cove in the southern part of the state and the Monterey peninsula and its signature Cypress trees to the north, but also beloved landmarks, including the Santa Monica Pier and the Venice Canals.

Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns shares the name of the 276-page deluxe book published about the century-old organization in 2017 by Skira Rizzoli. Several of the works in the display are also depicted in the tome, which features 200 full-color illustrations of evocative seascapes, charming seaside towns, and beach communities from San Diego near the Mexican border to Crescent City at the Oregon border.

“The California Art Club is delighted to present Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns to showcase the breathtaking landscapes that can be enjoyed in our corner of the Pacific Rim,” says Bethany Lamonde, exhibitions manager for the Club. “The Pacific Ocean has continually been a lure for our artists since the organization’s founding in 1909, and this exhibition at the USC Pacific Asia Museum allows us to explore an incredible rich and diverse look at life along the California coastline and its surrounding beach communities,” she adds.

During the exhibition, the California Art Club will present a plein air painting demonstration with Signature Artists Peter Adams and Calvin Liang on Sunday, July 15, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. The demonstration, which is free with museum admission, allows art enthusiasts of all ages to witness how classical fine art techniques have been used by artists for more than a century to capture fleeting moments of natural lighting illuminating a landscape, adding drama and atmosphere to an already beautiful setting.

The participating artists in the exhibition are juried members of the California Art Club and include Peter Adams, Brian Blood, John Budicin, John Burton, Marcia Burtt, Cathey Cadieux, Gil Dellinger, Karl Dempwolf, Dennis Doheny, Kathleen Dunphy, Richard Humphrey, David Jenks, Laurie Kersey, Calvin Liang, Carolyn Lord, Jim McVicker, Eric Merrell, Jennifer Moses, Michael Obermeyer, Jesse Powell, Scott W. Prior, April Raber, Gerald Rahm, Ian Roberts, Gayle Garner Roski, Kevin A. Short, Michael Situ, W. Jason Situ, Tim Solliday and Alexey Steele.
