Description

The Intern will learn about marketing and outreach for a major Southern California museum.

The intern will have both theoretical and practical training under the guidance of the Head of Communications and Marketing. The Digital Marketing & Outreach intern will learn about the processes and resources involved in developing and writing diverse museum campaigns and social media outreach, as well as identifying target audiences (educational, public, and community) for education programs. This internship will focus heavily on digital marketing (social media and web management) and outreach (marketing to target audiences).

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in non-profit, arts based marketing and outreach. Interns will acquire hands on experience and get an inside view of preparing for a museum exhibition and program offerings.

Duties:

  • Assist with management of web and social media projects.
  • Identify target audiences (educational, public, and community) for each education program.
  • Help create marketing pieces for education programs & exhibitions.
  • Craft language for marketing materials that excite the public to participate in museum programs.

Requirements:

  • Have experience with photography and videography (preferred).
  • Have experience working in Photoshop (preferred).
  • Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Have the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Have the ability to successfully manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
  • Must be able to impart diplomacy in all situations.
  • Interest in the arts and cultures of Asia and the Pacific Islands a plus.
  • Have experience working in web Content Management System (preferred).

Terms

The internship requires 400 hours of work for a total salary of $6,000 starting no earlier than June 7, 2021 and no later than June 21, 2021.

Eligibility

Student must:

  • Identify from an underrepresented group, including individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent;
  • Be currently enrolled undergraduates. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2021. Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.
  • Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County; and
  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
