About this event

Exhibited artist Ahree Lee led participants in creating a new, collaborative artwork celebrating and visualizing community. Inspired by the bojagi, a traditional Korean quilt-like textile, Lee invited the public to contribute photos of family and friends to piece together a collective photo quilt of the USC PAM community. All supplies were included. RSVP was required, with a fee of $20.

About the Artist:
Ahree Lee was a multi-media artist working in video, interactive media, and textiles. Lee received her B.A. from Yale University in English literature and an M.F.A. in graphic design from Yale School of Art. Her commissions included the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, the 01SJ Biennial, the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, and the Sundance Channel. She had an upcoming residency at Santa Fe Art Institute and was a Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Award nominee.

What is a Bojagi?
The word Bojagi roughly translated as wrapping or covering cloth and was the over-arching name given to this type of stitched textile.

Bojagi played an important role in traditional Korean culture and had been used to wrap, carry, and store objects, as well as for religious rituals and marriages. These functional items were made not as a pastime hobby but were an integral part of daily life.
